port blair
every trip starts here — make the gateway count.
Port Blair is the only city in the Andamans — the airport, the ferry jetty, the markets, and the history all converge here. Most travellers treat it as a transit stop. That's a mistake. A well-planned day or two in town adds depth to everything that comes after.
Cellular Jail is non-negotiable — the kala pani memorial where freedom fighters were held in solitary cells for years. Go in the morning for the museum, return at dusk for the light & sound show. Corbyn's Cove is the closest beach: small, palm-fringed, good for a swim before your ferry.
Chidiya Tapu on the southern tip is the sunset spot locals actually use — a rocky coastline, mangrove edges, and a sky that turns copper on clear evenings. The Aberdeen Bazaar is where you stock up on spices, coconut oil, and the dried fish that smells like the entire island.
